West Midlands Water Polo News

It has been a busy year for West Midlands Regional Water Polo. We have tasted success in our first season as the West Midlands with our 2004 Boys Inter Regional team who were victorious last December. A bright future is ahead of many of our talented young players, some have been selected for national squads, and many more have just attended National Academy at Millfield with their coach Gary Tonks.

We continue to offer RTC sessions at Walsall on Friday evenings for the 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 age groups. These sessions are aimed at the very top players from each club in the region, who must be nominated by their club coach to attend a trial. The next trial for RTC is on 16/09/18.

The RTC sessions are supplemented by a monthly Regional Academy, on a Sunday, for the younger players: 2003, 2004 and 2005’s.

Both the RTC and Regional Academy sessions are led by Gary Tonks and Phil Powell, with assistant coaches Ryan Padbury, Drazen Videc and John Halstead.

There has been a big drive to recruit more girls to play at regional level, and “girls only” training sessions have been held at various venues around the region, led by Rosie Morris and Hannah Hinton.
