World record for Ellie Simmonds

Ellie Simmonds (Boldmere) broke a world record on the penultimate day of action at the British Para-Swimming International Meet in Glasgow.

Paralympic Champion Simmonds knocked a second off her world record in the S6 400m Freestyle, lowering the record she set nearly four years ago at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and setting a new standard of 5:18.69.

“I knew I had that in me,” Simmonds said. “I knew training was going really well leading into the competition but I am so happy. I’ve just got to focus on my training now and see what I can improve on so I can swim the best that I can in Rio.”
