‘The Swim England Club Links initiative aims to encourage closer working relationships between clubs and learn to swim provider.
Clubs and operators offered introductory link sessions which built on skills from learn to swim and gave learners a taste of the ‘club experience’ in a safe and fun environment.’
Shrewsbury Swimming Club found great success with the project, with 70% of the swimmers on the programme trialling with the club with a view to join.
One parent thanked the club for running the programme, stating that it has been “truly brilliant”.
The club ran the final session as a mini gala with medals for all participants with had over 20 parents, grandparents and siblings coming to watch.
“Congratulations to the fabulous group of swimmers who took part in our 10-week Club Links Pathway Programme – lots of swim skills developed, dives & tumble turns learnt & new friendships made.
The last session was a celebration mini gala with all swimmers awarded a medal for their achievements. Thank you to our club coach, The Quarry Leisure Centre, Swim England, all parents & swimmers for making the project such a great success.”
An evaluation completed following 15 of the Club Link pilot swimming programme has shown 80 per cent of respondents agreed it had improved or maintained the club/operator relationship – while 73 per cent said it improved local pathways.
Everyone who completed the survey said they would recommend the programme to other clubs, while 87 per cent found it a useful initiative.
Other positives included 73 per cent agreeing that it had increased awareness of the club to the community.
