Silver at the Inter Regionals for the Under 16s Water Polo Team

The West Midlands Under 16s Boy’s team travelled to Blackpool playing in Division 1 of the 2019 Inter Regionals, with coach John Halstead.

Their first match against North East Steelers was a real nail biter. Steelers were leading the scoreboard coming into the 3rd quarter but the West Midlands boys fought back, with some great teamwork they pulled it back to 10-10. In the last  seconds of the match Seth Dewfield scored a stormer to give the boys an 11-10 win.

In their second match against the South West the boys really got into their stride, and 2 penalties from Dan Day and a couple of spectacular goals from Seth Dewfield in the 4th quarter  led the boys to a 13-9 win.

The team finished the afternoon with an Escape Room challenge in sunny Blackpool as a treat for their endeavours!

The first match on the 2nd day was against an unbeaten London side. The boys were trailing by 5 goals in the 2nd quarter but fought back valiantly, and with some more great penalties from Dan Day they finished the match with a 14-14 draw.

The final match of the competition was against North West Tigers. The team worked hard throughout,  goalie Tobias Ishaque saved 2 penalties and had the crowd on their feet, but despite their best efforts the final score was 12-7 to the North West, which meant West Midlands finished the tournament in 2nd place.

There were some great individual performances over the course of the weekend, but what really made the team stand out was their teamwork, camaraderie and their fighting spirit. Every single player gave 100% and the boys worked for each other with guts, determination and their love of the game.    This has been the culmination of 12 months hard work including a training camp in Serbia at Easter.

A great bunch of lads and worthy winners of the Silver medal.

Special thanks to coach John Halstead, team manager Terri Halstead and Simon Halstead as assistant coach for bringing it all together. Go West Mids!!
