Swim England West Midland Regional Development Programmes

We are excited to announce the return of the Regional Development Programme (RDP), as well as the launch of the Regional Distance Development Programme (RDDP).

These programmes consist of multiple camps, where swimmers will receive technical instruction from coaches who are selected from across the Region, as well as educational workshops to support their wider learning about psychology, physiology, and nutrition. This is a great opportunity for both swimmers and coaches to develop their skills and experiences.

Programme Aims

Regional Development Programme (RDP)

  • Further develop fundamental movement skills and core aquatic skills to advance physical literacy 
  • Further develop technical and skills across all four competitive strokes and turns 
  • Understand the culture of Swim England and its associated talent programmes 
  • Develop the characteristics in-line with the swimmer’s age and ‘Development’ stage of the Optimal Athlete Development Framework (OADF) 
  • Increase opportunities for the workforce delivering at this stage of the pathway, to experience and facilitate an integrated and inclusive training environment

Regional Distance Development Programme (RDDP)

  • Gain a greater understanding and insight of training requirements and opportunities within distance swimming 
  • Experience practical elements of open water environments 
  • Develop technical and racing skills in distance pool events and open water environments 
  • Understand the culture of Swim England and its associated talent programmes 
  • Develop the characteristics in-line with the swimmer’s age and ‘Development’ stage of the (OADF) 
  • Increase opportunities for the workforce to gain knowledge, experience and understanding of effective distance swimming practices within different aquatic environments

Congratulations to all coaches and swimmers selected.

The Regional Development Programme is aimed at swimmers aged 13, and are selected based on their long course 200IM time in the season prior to the programme commencement.

The Regional Distance Development Programme is aimed at swimmers aged 12-14, and are selected based on their long course 800m or 1500m freestyle time in the season prior to the programme commencement. Please note, we have selected 30 swimmers for the first season rather than the full 48.

Swimmers have been sent the first round of invitations. Any spaces that are not taken up will be offered to the next swimmer on the reserve lists, in the second round of invitations.

The Swim England Midlands Para-Training Sessions will also commence for the 2024-2025 season, and we will communicate further information once we have confirmed dates with the venue.
