West Midland Warriors: U18s Girls’ Inter-Regionals Championships 2024

The U18 Girls Inter Regions 2024 was a challenging yet rewarding experience for the West Midlands Warriors. Despite facing some obstacles, such as player withdrawals and strong opponents, the girls showcased impressive resilience and teamwork throughout the tournament.

The opening victory against the East, coming back from a 2-5 deficit in the first quarter, to an eventual 16-13 win demonstrated the team’s fighting spirit.

Although the match against the North West didn’t go as planned, the girls held their ground well in the first half 5-7 which is commendable. The girls felt the effects of the efforts in the previous game and a short turnaround meant that the North West took the victory 6-20.

Facing the Irish National team who went on to win gold is no small feat, however the girls took it as a great opportunity to learn and grow from such a competitive match. 6-25 was the final score.

Ending the weekend with a fourth-place finish in the bronze medal match against South West . Whilst the girls got off to a slow start going down 3-9 in the first quarter they soon picked up , pulling the game back within reach. Unfortunately the deficit from the first quarter and playing off 10 players took its toll , losing 16-23.

It’s clear that the experience gained and the individual performances noted will contribute positively to the team’s future.

Bella Ibbs truly deserves a special mention for her outstanding performance and leadership throughout the tournament. As captain, her ability to support and encourage her teammates at every moment highlights her dedication and commitment to the team. Being named the West Midlands MVP and the overall Top Goal Scorer is a remarkable achievement that reflects her hard work and talent.

Celebrating fourth position in Div 1 U18s as the highest finish for any WM girls’ team is a fantastic milestone that should encourage the girls as they continue to develop their skills and teamwork.

Thank you to all the Coaches, Team Managers, family and friends who supported the girls.
