Expressions of interest are now open for the West Midlands Coach Mentor programme designed to develop coaching skills within the region and to further embrace our strategy of increased membership, retention and diversity across our sports.
We have recruited 4 coach mentors:
- James Hollis – current club coach, retired Paralympic athlete, delivers performance lifestyle mentoring
- Nicola Bainbridge – current club coach, institute of swimming tutor and mentor, a breadth of experience and knowledge across the management, leadership and education sector
- Dave Lawrence – runs his own coach mentoring consultancy company, predominantly football background, high level of sport development understanding
- Nick Sellwood – held several high-level roles within a few National Governing Bodies, previously worked within the Swim England Talent team, a coach and more recently worked with CIMPSA to develop their professional coaching standards
We are seeking up to 16 mentee coaches for 6-12 months to work closely with one of the above mentors as part of the pilot. This is a free opportunity to gain CPD.
We are looking for coaches who are:
- Looking to progress your coaching skills and behaviours in working with athletes, parents/careers and committee’s
- Looking to develop or need child-centred coaching approach
- Looking to develop their coaching craft in working with athletes
- Seeking to develop new ideas to increase membership and retention of athletes
- Looking to engage with diverse people and communities
- A real passion for self-development and personal growth
- Open to the change in the coaching culture and wants to develop current practices
- Ability to identify own strengths and weaknesses and understands and can outline where a mentor would add benefit to their coaching practice
- Would like to develop leadership and management skills
- Coaches that are keen to gain support to develop an Individual Development Plan
