Swim England West Midlands would sadly like to announce the passing of Ray Green MBE, President of Heath Town Swimming Club, who died peacefully on Saturday 31st January 2026, shortly after celebrating his 91st birthday.

Ray joined Heath Town Swimming Club in the late 1970’s when the club was based at the old Heath Town Baths on Tudor Road, initially bringing his children along to develop their swimming. His commitment to the club quickly grew and he became a committee member in 1979. From that point on Ray devoted more than four decades to the club, serving in various committee roles until stepping down as chairman around five years ago.

Although Ray never sought recognition, his outstanding service to swimming and education was formally acknowledged when he was awarded an MBE at Buckingham Palace on 13th June 2009 — an honour of which he was immensely proud.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his wife, children and family during this hard time.

Rest in peace, Ray. 🌹
