On Saturday, April 13th, 2024, the West Midlands Region held their annual AGM at the Mercure Hotel, West Bromwich. During the meeting, considerable upset was caused to a long-time volunteer, David Corbett.
In April 2024, David stepped down as the Regional Records Officer after a period of 21 years, firstly with Midland District from 2003 and moving to the newly formed West Midland Region from 2005.
During David’s time in the sport, which spanned over 40 years, he volunteered in various positions, including Club Chair, Referee, County Officer, County President, Regional Board Director, and Regional President. He was also made a life member of his home club in 2003.
West Midlands Region failed to prepare a presentation that recognised David’s contribution to the sport; as a result, it gave rise to deep hurt and profound disappointment to David and others present.
The West Midlands Region regrets the distress this has caused and offers its sincere apologies. We have since reviewed our preparation process and reflected on how things could be handled better to ensure such situations do not arise in the future.
The region is committed to listening to our membership and learning from this experience as we continue to strive and develop.
