Wyre Forest Swimming Club supporting the Holidays, Activities and Foods Programme in Worcestershire

Wyre Forest Swimming Club (WFSC) is once again partnering with Worcestershire County Council to support the annual Holidays, Activities and Food (HAF) programme—an initiative aimed at children on free school meals and those with mild to moderate special educational needs.

This year, the club is scaling up its efforts, offering places to 384 children—a significant increase from last year’s 216. Thanks to the continued generosity of King Charles I School in Kidderminster, WFSC can now provide a mix of wet and dry activities, giving participants a fun and enriching experience during the summer holidays.

Over the course of 12 activity-filled days, children will take part in swimming sessions, alternative sports, interactive games, and even chess—an activity included by popular demand. Every detail of the programme is tailored to reflect the interests and needs of the children involved.

“Our coaches, teachers and club volunteers (all DBS checked) giving their time up during their holidays to run 12 days of events focussed around swimming but also covering several other breakout sports as well as a number of games and other activities,” said Richard Collie, Chair of WFSC.

Each day concludes with a Daily Presentation Ceremony, where medals and certificates are awarded for achievements both big and small—from swimming five metres for the first time to demonstrating exceptional kindness or perseverance.

WFSC’s involvement in the HAF programme is part of the club’s broader commitment to inclusivity and community engagement.

“As a club we believe in not just providing the sport of swimming for the Wyre Forest Community but importantly also working with our local communities to carry out events such as the HAF that will provide benefit to many children who would not normally get the opportunity to enjoy time in the water. In doing this we offer, which is our standard, total inclusivity for all children referred to us irrespective of their circumstances.”

With over 200 children already signed up within the first week, spaces are filling fast.
